At California Clean Truck Inspection Station, we offer a range of emissions testing and compliance services to keep your commercial vehicles legal and running smoothly:
CARB Clean Truck Check Compliance Testing: Comprehensive emissions inspections to meet California’s Clean Truck Check program requirements. We determine whether your vehicle needs an OBD scan or a smoke opacity test based on engine model year and perform the appropriate procedure to ensure it meets CARB standards. This service includes electronic submission of results to CARB and issuance of the Clean Truck Check certificate for DMV registration renewal.
On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) Testing: Electronic OBD compliance testing for 2013 and newer diesel trucks (and applicable engines). We connect a CARB-certified OBD testing device to your truck’s onboard computer to download emissions data and check for any fault codes that could indicate emissions issues. Our technicians verify that your engine’s emission control systems are functioning properly and help resolve any diagnostic trouble codes so your truck passes its diesel emissions test.
Smoke Opacity Testing: Diesel smoke opacity test for 2012 and older heavy-duty vehicles. We use SAE J1667-compatible smoke meters to measure the density of your truck’s exhaust smoke (via the snap acceleration test) and perform a visual inspection of emissions equipment. This “diesel smog check” ensures older trucks without OBD systems comply with state opacity standards and have all required components (filters, EGR, DPF, etc.) in place. Count on us to accurately test your vehicle’s smoke output and provide the documentation you need for Clean Truck Check compliance.
Not sure which service you need? Don’t worry – our team will guide you. Generally, 2013+ model year diesel engines require an OBD test, while 2012 and older diesels require a smoke opacity & visual test. We’ll make sure you get the right test for your truck. All testing is done by our licensed, credentialed inspectors, following official procedures and using CARB-approved equipment.
